This is a simple tale of every-day life of the Indian middle class people. The march of events in the story is mainly furthered by three individuals. They are a father, a son and a rich romantic girl.

The son whose mind is influence by the "New-fangled ideas" of patriotism and the like is bent upon devoting himself to public work and social service instead of trying to earn a fortunate for himself and his family.

But father, on the other hand, is staunch adherent of the established ways of his class and strongly disapproves of any deviation on the part of his son from the trodden path.

But the son inspite of his father's disapproval starts a printing press and a paper to propagate his own ideas, and having no necessary knowledge of the practical side of the business lands himself in a series mess.

At this stage, the father takes the law in his own hands, sells out his son's press and compels him to accept a paid job in the very same press, of which he was once the owner.

This last straw breaks the camel's back and the son leaves his father's place for the slums where, he believes, he can translate his aspirations into reality.

The rich romantic girl is the second element that runs counter to the 'son's pursuit of his ideals. She is, no  doubt, fascinated by his conduct and his ideas-nay-she has even gone so far as to render him monetary help in his financial difficulties, but his insistence on forsaking all his worldly possessions, including even her love for him, is something she considers unwarranted and foolish. She is determined to bring home to him the absurdity of his notions by taking recourse to a diametrically opposite course of conduct, and as luck would have it, she gets a friend too, to back her up in her determination.

And the...............?
